Welcome back to our Melville Community blog!
It’s been a busy month full of sunshine and great community vibes.
The summer BBQ at the Point on 17th July was a huge success, and we were lucky enough to have good weather on our side.
The events committee did an amazing job cleaning up the area and putting together a feast of burgers, salads, and snacks, and we would like to express our gratitude to all the residents who came along and brought a side or snack to add to the spread.
Keep an eye on our events calendar, and if you haven’t already, join our Facebook group to stay updated with the latest community news.
IF HISTORY COULD TALK…
it would have to take a seat and listen to Kevin Dixon’s ‘Torquay Peculiar’ Talk. St Luke’s Church Hall. It’s great to see that in a world of social media, people are willing to take the time to appreciate the richness and complexity of their town’s past.
Kudos to Kevin Dixon, and a big thank you to all who came out to listen to this peculiar and wonderful historical talk.
Are you a fan of homemade ice cream?
If so, we have a delicious-looking and creamy recipe to help you cool down during this hot summer weather. One of our Melville Street residents shared this, and we like it!
TORQUAY LIBRARY SUMMER EVENTS
If you’re looking for family-friendly summer break activities, don’t forget to check out the Torquay Library’s summer events.
The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to keep reading during the school summer holidays – and to enjoy anything they like to read! Children aged 4-11 are invited to set a reading goal and collect rewards for their reading.
It’s FREE to take part, and last year 75% of children taking part improved their reading skills over the holidays.
Read more about it and sign up and participate.
THE BEAUTY OF WHERE WE LIVE
One of the incredible things about living in Torbay is the beautiful nature on our doorstep.
We’re lucky to live near some amazing beaches, hills, and trails that provide stunning views and plenty of opportunities for exercise and fresh air.
If you’re looking for inspiration to increase your steps and get fitter, check out some incredible photos from a Warren Street resident’s recent trip to Broadsand Beach.
There’s no better motivation than the natural beauty that surrounds us.

COMMUNITY MEETINGS:
The Melville Community invites all residents of the Melville areas, Warren Road, St Luke’s, Abbey Road, and Rock Road, to participate in our regular monthly meetings.
It is a unique opportunity to share your concerns regarding our Neighbourhood and help improve our town.
They are also a great place to make new friends and learn about upcoming events and activities in our area.
Come along to the next one on Monday, 3rd July, from 18:30-19:30 at the Torbay Community Hub.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates, and stay connected with us via our Facebook group and events calendar.
