With record numbers of officers in Devon &Cornwall Police and £1.1m of Safer Streets funding secured, making the centre of Torquay look and feel safer is a focus for this year.

I have been working with our Police and Crime Commissioner, Alison Hernandez, and the local Policing team to deal with long-standing concerns from residents. This includes ensuring a visible policing presence in and near Castle Circus, whilst also expanding CCTV coverage.

Alongside work to deal with those engaging in anti-social behaviour, there has been welcome news of £1.9m of government funding over the next 3 years as part of the Rough Sleeping Initiative which aims to end rough sleeping. This funding will help provide emergency beds and support the outreach team here in the bay who will contact any rough sleeper who a resident is concerned about. The team will co-ordinate with Torbay Council, community services and other appropriate groups to find support and the offer of a bed for them.

This work sits along side the plans for revitalising Torquay Town Centre which are part of the Torquay Town Deal. The Government has provided £21.9m of funding to support these plans, with work on
improvements and regeneration projects planned under it due to start this year.
