Operation Town Centres update

There is a new website to stay up to date with developemts for the Town Centre as released earlier this summer – see below information received via Torbay Councils email newsletter circulation.

“Our work to ensure our town centres are safe and welcoming for all has taken another step forward.

Our new webpage explains how we’re investing to provide additional enforcement officers and support/welfare staff to address the root cause behind anti-social behaviour.

We also set out some of the powers at our disposal.

We’ll be using this page to regularly update you with the latest figures. For example, did you know that in May:

66 businesses in Torquay and 55 in Paignton have taken up the offer of portable radios. This is to improve communication between traders and address shoplifting and ASB. The radio system is linked directly to the CCTV control room and the police.

Thanks to the regular presence of our Town Centre Officers, there were 46 directions to surrender alcohol in Torquay and 5 in Paignton.

Town Centre Officers and partners monitored 12 individuals in Torquay and 4 in Paignton for behaviour including prolific shoplifting, drug use and predatory, aggressive and threatening behaviour.”

We liaise closely with them on Street Focus Torquay, our shared goal of making Torquay safer.

Find out how you can get involved by visiting the Street Focus website.

You can meet staff from the OPCC every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm outside Torquay town hall in Castle Circus.
