The Melville Community is now a Neighbourhood Watch Area.
If you received a copy of The Point community magazine last December. You may already know that Melville is now part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
What is Neighbourhood Watch all about?
Neighbourhood Watch is the largest volunteer-led crime prevention charity in England and Wales, with over 60,000 active volunteers and 2 million supporter households. The organisation works to empower and educate communities while fostering stronger neighbourhood connections.
Each area is divided into local Force areas, aligning with police jurisdictions. At every level, nationally, regionally, and locally, Neighbourhood Watch shares the same vision, mission, and values.

How can you get involved?

We have an active community group that meets on the first Monday of each month from 6:30–7:30 PM at the Lyceum Theatre on Abbey Road. Our meetings are open to all residents whether you have concerns, want to report an issue, or simply want to get involved in making Melville a safer, stronger community, we encourage anyone who shares the same desire to join us and bring your thoughts and ideas to the table.
You may have noticed new Neighbourhood Watch signs around the area?
We believe we could benefit from more to ensure even coverage. Do you see a sign near your property? Would you like one closer to your home? Let us know if you would like a window sticker for your property to boost momentum too.
Why Neighbourhood Watch Matters?
Neighbourhood Watch schemes reduce Crime, prevent anti-social behaviour, and increase community confidence. More than just a crime prevention initiative, it fosters stronger community ties, ensuring we look out for one another.

Through the scheme, you’ll also gain access to training and resources via the Neighbourhood Watch Knowledge Hub, developed to provide guidance and support based on real community needs.
Would you know what to do if you noticed an elderly or vulnerable neighbour hadn’t been seen in a while? Neighbourhood Watch guides how to identify and report concerns safely without putting yourself in a risky situation.
