From the serenity of Canon in D to the energy of La Folia and the vivid natural drama of The Four Seasons, this programme offers a vibrant and soulful journey through the music that shaped a generation and still moves us today.

Whether you’re a lifelong listener or new to classical music, this concert promises enchantment and a journey through some of the most beloved music of the 17th and 18th centuries.

SATURDAY 12th July:

Join Ambrosian Strings for a mix of some of the best-loved music from British musicians from Baroque to Bridgerton, including the sublime Lark Ascending.

A perfect concert for anyone who might be a little “ClassiCurious”…

Hosted within the ancient parish of St Mary the Virgin with its 12-century Norman font to its soaring heritage tower, join us to experience how history amplifies every note.

Think Bridgerton’s playful approach to melody: Baroque meets Beatles, Purcell meets Queen. We won’t reveal the whole setlist just yet because surprise is half the fun), but you may recognise:

Queen of Sheba * Handel

✨ Salut d’Amour * Elgar

✨ Eleanor Rigby * The Beatles

✨ Somebody to Love * Queen

✨ The Lark Ascending * Vaughan Williams

…and a few other twists you’ll only hear on the night.

Arrive ready to listen “without prejudice” to borrow George Michael’s words and allow the strings to do the talking.

St Mary’s nave has witnessed Saxon worship, Norman stonework, and the tragedy of enemy action bomb damage during WWII; its natural acoustics make every pizzicato sparkle and every organ chord resonate.

Come for the music, stay for the magic.
