Smoking Cessation – Meeting 1 Your Heatlh Torbay; Support, Treatments and Medication

Thank you to those who attended our first Smoking Cessation session to start of the New Year.

Charlotte Mounce joined us from Your Health Torbay and shared with us the available treatments and medications supplied as part of a 12-week support programme to help quit smoking.

Anyone who has tried to stop before but has been unsuccessful should not feel bad.

On average, it can take up to eight attempts to quit, and there is even research to suggest that smoking releases dopamine, the chemical messenger in the brain that affects mood, movement, and motivation. It’s also a hormone that helps you feel pleasure and reward.

That’s why the highest success rates of those who have successfully quit and stayed quit are those who have received a combination of treatment and support.

Treatments and Medications are available as part of a 12-week support programme with Your Health Torbay, which includes:

*12x weeks of support with a stopping coach (face-to-face or over the phone). With a specialist advisor.

*12x weeks of nicotine replacement or medication

Treatments and Medications Include:

*Nicotine replacement products: patches, inhalators and sprays. (Free)

*Swap to Stop is a national campaign to help the government meet its goal of reducing smoking rates to 5% or less by 2023. As part of this campaign and with this cessation group, you can receive a free vape starter kit and tailored advice to support the journey as mentioned above. (Free)

Medication – (Prescription fee).

What happens next is you will have an initial assessment over the phone; this is to get to know you, your smoking habits and frequency to determine the best course of treatment and support.
